Weather and sky are immense presences in my paintings. Sometimes orienting to a wide horizon, at other times incorporating microcosms or inner geographies, each mark inspired by the sight and feel of landscape. For me, the moving sky and still horizon involve memory and place, like mnemonic maps.
My childhood at the base of the Rocky Mountains taught me how space and light move across wide-open vistas. Water-based paint expresses similarly to weather, and I like to push the boundaries of the mediums, exploring flows of liquid pigment and developing the ways in which these chance-derived stream and lake-like marks reflect meaning in the larger cosmos.
A life-long practice of meditation informs the work. In the studio I listen, allow and move as if in meditation. Making these works grounds me in hope. Through process and color I seek the infinite and unnameable.
